REHABILITATION & REINTEGRATION

Empatiku has been in partnership with C-SAVE since 2017 to implement Community Based Rehabilitation & Reintegration for individuals who have been exposed to violent extremism ideology (Indonesia Counter Terrorism Law No. 5 of 2018, Article 43D, Letter f).

In 2017 to 2019, Empatiku facilitated the social reintegration of a total of 12 families (25 people) of IS affiliated deportees and returnees. The goal of the program is to ensure a smooth social reintegration amongst the clients, the community and the government by which the clients regain the social skills to reenter to the society and start the new lives.

A set of activities for social reintegration included: (1) getting to know the client and build the trust; (2) introduction of the program to the client and get the buy-in of the clients to voluntarily participate in the program;

(3) needs assessment of the clients and the community and identification of local recourses available from the local community and local government; (4) mobilisation of social reintegration activities at the community level that ensuremeeting all basic rights including civil rights (ID and Family cards), health cards,  and or economic activities; (5) program evaluation whether to terminate or continue.

In 2018 Empatiku has also facilitated the social reintegration of two parolees of former terrorism inmates working together with parole officers of East and North Jakarta Parole Office.
